Who We Are
Lilac City Friends is a Washington State non-profit organization that opened in April 2022. Throughout the past few years Lilac City Friends has grown and developed into everything we dreamed about for years. A dream which was born from our own experiences navigating caring for someone with dementia and/or a disability.
Our experience not only includes 15+ years as professionals, but a lifetime of experience with our own family. We have been the daughter caring for a dad with dementia, the wife caring for a husband with a traumatic brain injury, a grandchild watching their grandfather fight cancer, a brother growing up with a disabled sister, a mother receiving an autism diagnosis for their child. We have experienced the long nights in hospitals, navigating coordinating care, scheduling doctor appointments, physical and occupational therapy, seeing loved ones forget who we are, trying to balance work with caring for our loved one, and much more.
We saw a need in our community for affordable daytime respite and the knowledge that your loved one is in a safe and secure place where they will be able to socialize with people who won’t care if they repeat the same story over and over again or want to talk about trains all day long. At Lilac City Friends being a little different is normal!
While we have no formal training in counseling, we are always willing to be a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen, or just an understanding place to vent. We are here to provide a place for your loved one and support the ones caring for them.
